Highlights of JazzFest:
- Mamadou Diabate’s set at the SOCO Blues tent–my introduction to both the kora and griot music
- seeing a floating trashcan INSIDE the SOCO Blues tent, which showed me, as I sat comfortably dry watching Mamadou Diabate, how hard it was raining outside.
- broiled trout and gumbo for lunch, with a mini homemade pecan pie for dessert.
-Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint’s 2 hour set…tremendous
-Al Green singing “Let’s Stay Together”
- hearing Elvis Costello cover The Velvet Underground’s “Femme Fatale” as a special birthday present to me on my 43rd birthday.
- spending the day with my dear friend Lara, who was our NOCCA host for the week
